Thursday 19 October 2017

The Royal College of Music (RCM) is delighted to announce the addition of a Master of Education (MEd) course to its wide range of bespoke programmes. The new taught postgraduate course will provide professional musicians the opportunity develop their educational work and the potential to transition into leadership roles in musical education.

Suitable for professional musicians engaged in educational work, the Master of Education (MEd) will build on students’ professional experience to develop their vocational skills. Students have the opportunity to build a portfolio and conduct in-depth investigative research in an area of their choice.

The course is designed to be taken part-time, with teaching concentrated around professional work commitments. Intensive weekend and vacation sessions at the RCM are supplemented with online learning. RCM students also benefit from the College’s unique Creative Careers Centre, which is recognised internationally for its innovative approach to students’ professional development.

Richard Wistreich, Director of Research comments, 'The RCM's new Master of Education programme is another step in fulfilling our foundational mission to be a national and international centre for musical education. The programme offers musicians who have been out in the profession for several years the opportunity to move forward into leadership roles that transform the musical lives of others'.

The course is available from September 2018 and the deadline for applications is 31 January 2018. More information including how to apply can be found here.
